Most Popular Sports Teams in New York Revealed
A new study shows which sports teams are the most searched for in New York. The New York Yankees are number one, with almost 290,000 searches each month.
How the Study Was Done
Experts at TheLines.com looked at Google searches from the past year. They studied all 125 Major League sports teams in the United States. They used search terms like “where to buy [team] tickets,” “when is the next [team] game,” and “[team] game near me.”
Number One: The New York Yankees
The Yankees get about 288,882 searches each month. They are a baseball team from the Bronx. The Yankees are one of the most successful sports teams in history. They have won 27 World Series championships and many other titles.
Second Place: The Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are the second most searched team in New York with about 248,362 searches per month. The Bills are a football team. They play in the NFL and are part of the AFC East division. They won championships in 1964 and 1965 before the NFL and AFL joined together.
Third Place: The New York Rangers
The New York Rangers are a hockey team and come in third with 154,994 searches each month. They play in the NHL and are one of the oldest teams in the league. They were the first U.S. team to win the Stanley Cup.
Fourth Place: The New York Mets
The Mets are a baseball team from Queens. They get about 146,879 searches each month. The Mets have won two World Series titles and have been part of Major League Baseball since 1962.
Fifth Place: The New York Knicks
The Knicks are a basketball team from Manhattan. They get around 144,100 searches each month. The Knicks were founded in 1946 and have won two championships. They are one of the oldest teams in the NBA.
Honorable Mention: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies
Okay, I made that up but they are a fantastic team to watch this summer and can't wait to see them in the Eastern League Playoffs in September.
