McDonald’s Systems Hit By An Epic Global McMeltdown

Friday definitely didn't start the way fast food giant McDonald's imagined it might.

Instead of smooth operations, the company's computer system decided it was Mc-Done and threw an epic Mc-Meltdown of global proportions.

A global system outage at McDonald's locations around the world left customers unable to order and it led to many customers having a Mc-Meltdown of their own. As news of the system outage spread, customers in various countries did the sad but predicable thing (because nobody can keep their displeasure about anything too themselves these days) - they spewed their frustrations all over social media.

What can we say? When a person wants a Big Mac, they want a Big Mac and nothing will stand in their way of getting one. Except maybe a global meltdown.

Anyone else having visions of Verruca Salt in Willy Wonka exclaiming "Hey, Daddy, I want an Oompa Loompa! I want you to get me an Oompa Loompa right away!" Except to the tune of "I want you to get me a Big Mac right away!"? Lovely times we're living in, wouldn't you say?

While McDonald's says that it has ruled out a cybersecurity incident, it did acknowledged that there was a system failure and that it did impact restaurant locations around the world. The company also assured customers that efforts were underway to restore operations as soon as possible.

With approximately 40,000 restaurants worldwide, including over 14,000 in the United States, the McDonald's system outage had a significant impact. The exact number of impacted stores globally was not immediately available.

Here we all were thinking the worst thing that could happen at McDonald's was their ice cream machine going down. Silly us. Apparently the worst thing is customers around the world unable to get their Mc-Fix for a few hours.

The home was built in 1795 for the Denton family on Long Island who is the founder of the town of Hempstead. It was an 18th-century farmhouse. McDonald's bought the property in 1985 with plans of leveling the home and building a fast food restaurant. That's when the residents of the Town of Hempstead stepped in to try and save the historic home according to Atlas Obscura. McDonald's agreed to restore the mansion in exchange for allowing them to build a drive-thru lane.
