When it comes to the pursuit of strength, determination, and unwavering resilience, Sherrie Yacalis, an adjunct lecturer within Binghamton University's Division of Health and Wellness Studies, embodies the epitome of these qualities.

Sherrie’s journey from unassuming beginnings to international recognition in the world of CrossFit is the ultimate inspiration.

A decade ago, Sherrie stepped into the world of CrossFit after a friend invited her to give it a try, unaware that this decision would set her on a path toward remarkable achievements and self-discovery. Sherrie remembers feeling intimidated by the very concept of CrossFit, but little did she know that it would soon become an integral part of her life.

Fast forward to the present day and Sherrie has carved out her place amongst the international elite in CrossFit, achieving a remarkable 12th place overall in the Masters CrossFit Games held in Alabama this past summer. Throughout the course of this event, she secured three top-10 finishes, showing her unwavering dedication and prowess at the highest level of CrossFit competition.

The journey to the CrossFit Games is a meticulous and demanding process, requiring athletes to navigate through multiple stages of rigorous competition. From the initial CrossFit Open to the grueling semifinals, Sherrie's relentless commitment shone through, earning her a well-deserved spot at the pinnacle of CrossFit competition - the CrossFit Games.

As a member of Binghamton University's Division of Health and Wellness Studies for nearly six years, Sherrie shares her passion through teaching Health and Wellness via Weightlifting.

For Sherrie, CrossFit represents more than an athletic pursuit; it also represents the power of setting and achieving short-term goals, providing constant motivation and an unyielding drive for self-improvement. Embracing the competitive aspect of CrossFit has not only fueled her physical strength and fitness but has also given her a renewed sense of mental fortitude, redefining her understanding of personal limits and possibilities.

Sherrie emphasizes that her journey through the world of CrossFit has been about far more than physical prowess - it has been a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. The rigors of CrossFit have tested her both physically and mentally, showing her just how much capacity she holds for continuous growth and improvement.
