New Yorkers Take the Longest to Bring Someone Home for the Holidays
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “moving too slow” when it comes to bringing someone home to meet the family, relax. A new study basically confirmed what a lot of us already suspected. New Yorkers do not rush this part. In fact, we take longer than anyone else in the country.
We’re Number One… in Waiting
According to the data, New York is the number one state most likely to wait a full year or more before introducing a partner to the family holiday chaos. 27% of New Yorkers said they’d wait at least 12 months before bringing someone home. Honestly, considering the awkward questions, loud relatives, and that one aunt who asks too many personal things, who can blame us?

Half of Us Need at Least Six Months
Almost half of New Yorkers 48% say 6 months sounds like a reasonable amount of time before making that big introduction. That checks out. 6 months is long enough to know whether someone can handle your family’s “energy,” but not long enough to feel like you’re rushing into something huge.
Some Folks Move Fast
Then there’s the 15% who say, “You know what, three months is enough.” These are the daredevils among us. The brave souls who either have extremely chill families or extremely steady nerves. 3 months into dating and already letting someone witness the holiday madness. Respect.
A Lot of People Are Doing It This Year
And here’s the fun part. 38% percent of New Yorkers say they are planning to bring someone home this holiday season. Maybe it’s the season of love. Maybe people are tired of showing up solo. Maybe cuffing season hit harder than usual. Either way, a lot of “Meet the family” moments are coming.
