Bugs Bunny may be the face of Looney Tunes, but he is not New York’s favorite. A study of online searches found that New Yorkers are more interested in Granny than any other character from the cartoons.

Granny Wins New York

Granny is known as the kind but strong owner of Tweety, Sylvester, and Hector the Bulldog. Her full name is Emma Webster. She was the top searched Looney Tunes character in New York during the past year.

New York Is Not Alone

Granny also topped searches in Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, and New Jersey. That gave her wins in five states, including three in the Northeast. She placed behind only Bugs Bunny and Pepé Le Pew in the national results.

Bugs Bunny Leads the Country

Bugs Bunny was the most searched character in 10 states. Pepé Le Pew finished second by leading eight states. Tweety won four states, while Lola Bunny and Elmer Fudd each won three.

Other Characters Found Fans

Several characters were favorites in two states. They included Gossamer, Road Runner, Speedy Gonzales, Tasmanian Devil, Yosemite Sam, and Porky Pig. Foghorn Leghorn won only Kentucky.

How the Favorite Was Chosen

Coventry Direct chose 25 well known Looney Tunes characters. The company studied Google Trends searches from the past 12 months and compared interest in each character by state.

Search interest was used as a sign of popularity. Nearly a century later, New York still loves classic Looney Tunes, especially Granny. To see the complete list of most popular Looney Tune characters in every state, go here.
