There’s something special about walking into the Broome County Forum Theatre and seeing the names of those who have left a lasting mark on our community. Today, that wall grew a little brighter as Carol Hanscom and Tom Kremer were honored with a joint star recognizing their decades of dedication to the arts in Broome County and far beyond.
Building the Cultural Heartbeat of Local Theater
If you’ve ever spent time at the Cider Mill Playhouse, you’ve probably felt the influence of Hanscom and Kremer. Together, they guided more than forty years of professional theater in Broome County, pouring their hearts into performances, directing, writing, and mentoring countless artists. Their work didn’t just put on shows, it built memories and shaped a cultural heartbeat for our area.
From Binghamton to Beijing: Hanscom’s Global Impact
Carol Hanscom’s resume is as impressive as it is inspiring. She performed in over 60 productions at the Cider Mill Playhouse between 1976 and 2019, directed 13 plays, and co-authored A Cider Mill Christmas Carol.

Hanscom even took her talents around the country and across the world, gracing stages from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., to Beijing’s National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. And let’s not forget her creation of the Appleseed Players, a children’s theater troupe that brought joy to thousands of young audiences.
Actor, Director, and Playwright With Worldwide Reach
Tom Kremer’s story is just as rich. As Artistic Director of the Cider Mill Playhouse from 1984 to 1991 and later its Founding Artistic Director, he helped guide the organization through times of change and growth.
Kremer acted in 68 plays, directed 45 productions, and, like Hanscom, co-authored A Cider Mill Christmas Carol. His career also spanned the globe, with performances and direction in places as far-reaching as China, England, Scotland, Wales, and Chile.
