Broome County Flags Delays On These Roads Starting Monday
If you're running errands around Broome County next week, give yourself a few extra minutes. The Broome County Department of Public Works Highway Division has a full slate of road work planned starting Monday, August 24, and a few of these jobs are the kind that can back up traffic if you're not expecting them.
Ditch Cleaning On Old Newark Valley, Hawleyton And Beartown Roads
Crews will be out cleaning ditches along Old Newark Valley Road, Hawleyton Road and Beartown Road. This is routine maintenance, but it does mean equipment on the shoulder and slower speeds in those areas, so watch for crews if you're traveling through.
Culvert Work On Pagebrook, Knapp Hill And Airport Roads
Culvert work is scheduled on Pagebrook Road, Knapp Hill Road and Airport Road. Culverts don't get much attention until they fail, so it's good to see the county staying ahead of it before fall rains show up and test every drainage system in the county.
Asphalt Surface Treatment On Broome Corporate Parkway
Broome Corporate Parkway will get asphalt surface treatment from Powers Road to NYS Route 7. If you commute through that corridor for work, plan for a slower ride and maybe a detour if crews close a section.
Mowing And Painting On County Roadways
Beyond the ditch and culvert work, crews will also be mowing the right of way and painting lines on various county roadways. Both are easy to overlook until you notice how much better the sightlines are at a blind curve, or how much easier it is to see your lane at night.

Taft Avenue Milling And Paving Continues
The big one to know about is Taft Avenue, County Route 029, where the major milling and paving project between Country Club Road and Twist Run Road is continuing into next week. This has been an ongoing project, and the county is again asking drivers to expect delays, look for alternate routes if possible, and slow down through the work zone.
