Seasonal Limbo in Otsego County, New York. What’s Next?
It's that weird time in our region, the first day of fall is right around the corner, and with it, those cool, crisp temperatures that are conducive to leaf peeping, doughnut crushing, and cider sippin'. Right now the weather doesn't know what it wants to do, and the leaves are starting to rust.
A fall paradise
Otsego County as a whole is a goldmine for the lover of fall season food, drink, and fun. Here are some spots where you can get your fall on in earnest.
Fly Creek Cider Mill
This is it, the original, the OG, the one everyone talks about. Fly Creek Cider Mill is a veritable Otsego County institution. Located in Fly Creek, NY, there's not much in the fall playbook that they don't offer. From cider to doughnuts to specialty and gourmet food items, Fly Creek Cider Mill is worth spending a morning or afternoon perusing the shop as well as their various outdoor activities.
Dyn's Cider Mill, Richfield Springs
If quaint and out of the way is what you aim for, Dyn's Cider Mill should be on your list. The cider at this family operation is served crisp and cold, the apple cider doughnuts are nice and hot, and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The store also offers gifts, crafts, cheese, and maple syrup products. Oh, did I mention they make cider slushies??
Willy's Farm and Cider Mill, Schenevus
Owned by the Gartung family, Willy's Farm and Cider Mill is a delight. Geared towards families, there's a good number of things to see and do including a corn maze and an antique barn filled with local crafts and foods. The big get is their apple cider doughnuts, served piping hot from their onsite snack shack.
