Warning for Otsego County, New York Includes Heavy Snow and Wind
Otsego County is currently under a Winter Storm Warning due to threats from a particularly strong clipper system that will bring snow and wind to the area well into tomorrow.
Today: Snow showers will develop this afternoon, with the best chance for accumulation near and north of the NY Thruway during the mid-to-late afternoon. This could lead to slower evening commutes.
Tonight: A clipper system will bring more widespread light to moderate snow showers. Northern Oneida County may experience steadier snowfall with snow rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour.
Thursday: Heavier snow showers or even squalls are possible early in the morning, especially between 4–10 AM. Lake-effect snow showers will develop in the afternoon and continue into the evening. Strong winds could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Friday: Breezy conditions will persist, with scattered lake-effect snow showers shifting north later in the day. Colder temperatures arrive, with highs only in the 20s.
With this storm, the main threats will be snow totals and wind, with the potential for times of possible blizzard like conditions. According to the National Weather Service, "snow showers will slowly develop this afternoon, and become steadier and heavier overnight. Embedded snow squalls may reduce visibility to near zero at times Thursday morning. Winds will become increasingly gusty Thursday."
