Oneonta, New York’s Fatboyz Pizza is Badazz

The folks from Fatboyz Pizza and Badazz Bites just left the studio. To say that I'm food drunk would be an understatement. I was warned by friends that this would happen, and boy were they right. The restaurant recently opened on Oneonta's Southside at 6730 State Highway 23.

Jordan Tolley, the chef behind the madness has assembled a menu that reads like Pablo Escobar's assorted crimes. From appetizers to pizza to hoagies to rolls and even burgers and salads, there's a little bit of everything, and it's all so very comforting.

The first item I was handed is something of a recent local legend, their Lasagna Dipperz. Wow, what a rush. House made lasagna sticks are battered and deep fried and served with their house made marinara sauce. This simple dish is a home run. The house made marinara is a great blend of sweet and savory.

From there it was on to their Chicky Tendiez. No, these aren't frozen from a distributor and then quick fried. These chicken tenders are fresh cut, breaded, and then fried. Paired with fresh cut fries and house made dipping sauces, these are popular with kids and adults alike.

Their pizza is different from the typical slice you'll find around town. Typical Oneonta pizza is true to New York style with a thin, crispy crust. The pizza at Fatboyz is thicker and doughier, and definitely suited for cold Upstate New York nights. The chicken bacon ranch and meat mania pies are layered to almost comical proportions. One, maybe two slices and you'll be feeling full.

But Fatboyz does so much more. Their burgers are of the smashed variety and packed with flavor. I tried the Spicy Jane version, which came with subtle heat from jalapeno peppers. Then there's the rolls. Think traditional stromboli and roni rolls, but kicked up more then a few notches. I tried the Ronda version with hand breaded chicken and Rousey sauce, which has spicy and peppery notes. Definitely a knockout like its namesake.
