One Fatality Following Delaware County, New York Crash
A Delhi resident is deceased after a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in the Town of Meredith on State Highway 28.
According to a press release from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday morning, June 25th, 2024, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a fatal two-car accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith, resulting in the death of a Delhi resident.
An investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Deputies, the Criminal Investigations Division, and the Collision Reconstruction Unit revealed that at approximately 10:22 AM, Marsha A. Rotella, 45, of Delhi, NY, was traveling southbound on State Highway 28 in her 2007 Jeep Wrangler. She was attempting to pass a second vehicle, a 2024 Ford Expedition driven by Jamie E. Navarro, 46, of Pembroke Pines, FL, which was traveling in the same direction. An approaching, uninvolved vehicle traveling in the northbound lane caused Rotella to steer back into the southbound lane before completing her pass, resulting in her vehicle making contact with Navarro's. The collision caused Rotella to lose control of her vehicle, which then skidded off the roadway and overturned, ejecting her from the vehicle.
Due to the injuries sustained, Rotella was pronounced deceased at the scene.
State Highway 28 was closed for several hours as Deputies and the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident.
Sheriff DuMond thanked the following agencies for their assistance at the scene: Delhi Fire and EMS Departments, County Ambulance, AMR, LifeNet, the New York State Police, and the NYS Department of Transportation.
