Police are warning shoppers to keep a close eye on their bank accounts after a suspicious device was discovered at a store in Gloversville.

Investigators say the device may have been capable of collecting credit and debit card information from customers without their knowledge.

Device Found at Gloversville Store

According to the Gloversville Police Department, officers responded on March 3 to the Dollar Tree located at 169 North Main Street after a report of a suspicious device attached to a point of sale terminal.

Police recovered several components from the terminal. After further investigation, officers believe the parts may belong to a skimming device.

These devices are designed to capture credit or debit card data when customers swipe or insert their cards.

Investigation Ongoing With State Police

The investigation is still active. The New York State Police are assisting local officers as they continue looking into the incident.

Authorities have not yet released information about how long the device may have been in place or whether any customer data was compromised.

Police are asking anyone who recently shopped at the Dollar Tree location and used a credit or debit card to closely monitor their bank statements for unusual activity.
