Thousands Of Drivers Ticketed On The New York State Thruway
If you were on the road in New York State in the last couple of weeks, there is a good chance you saw a large police presence. The results are in and it was a very busy week for law enforcement.
Here in New York State, there are numerous laws pertaining to distracted driving. Just recently, New York State expanded the "Move Over Law" to add all stopped vehicles that are on the side of a road, highway or Thruway.
But the most recent traffic law campaign was "Operation Hang Up" as police were looking for people distracted by the use of a cell phone.

In a post on the New York State Police website, it was noted that: " This special traffic detail, which took place from April 1 to April 8, 2024, targeted drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel".
The majority of the tickets were related to cell phone use and the most tickets were handed out on the New York State Thruway.
Keep in mind that the Move Over Law has also been expanded here in New York State and if you are driving, you need to make sure you leave room and slow down for any vehicle that is on the side of the road.
