I know, it feels like you just got out of class and already you have to go out and get a job for the summer.  But if you want the best ones, you need to be on top of it.

What makes one job better than another when it comes to summer jobs?

Aren't all summer jobs the same?

It really depends on what you're looking for.  For a lot of people in New York, they want to be able to take advantage of the good weather while it's here.  It only lasts so long here, so you want to make the most of it while it's here.  So, a lot of people like to snag jobs that will be outdoors or partially outdoors.

Sometimes it's the hours that make the difference.  If you're one of those people who just want to make a little extra spending money, then a job that requires a full-time commitment might not be for you.  There are other options for that.

How early can someone begin working?

Is there an age limit for kids?

There are.  Depending on the job, the government has certain child labor laws that employers are supposed to abide by.  There are some occupations like farming, babysitting and others that will allow kids to work at an earlier.

When is too early to start looking for a summer job?

It's almost never too early to start.  If there's a job that you want, it never hurts to ask if they're hiring.  The worst they can do is tell you that the hiring process hasn't started yet, but if you're eager and show initiative, most employers like that.  They'll normally tell you when the job will open up?

So what are some of the best summer jobs you can snag in New York?
