Potentially Severe Weather On the Way for New York State

We're a week away from the start of August, which means that summer is approaching the halfway point. Technically, summer ends the third week of September, but for many people the end of summer is Labor Day Weekend.

The humidity, thunderstorms and wildfire smoke have been the stories of summer 2023, with some pretty hefty thunderstorms rolling through the state this past Thursday night and into early Friday morning. These storms brought heavy winds, downpours, hail and even the isolated threat of a tornado.

This week looks to be hot and humid, with temperatures downstate reaching 90+ degrees by this upcoming weekend. Mid-80's will be the story for much of the state, however, with the threat of more severe weather arriving today.

The National Weather Service says that there will be a small risk of severe thunderstorms for much of New York state on Monday, with the threat in Central New York and extending eastward.

This is only a possibility but these storms could produce damaging winds and hail, with heavy downpours.

It's best to stay prepared for anything. Thunderstorms can roll in out of nowhere and if this past Thursday/Friday taught us anything, it's that the heavy wind gusts are no joke. Make sure that anything that can get blown down or blown away, is taken inside if at all possible.

The good news is Tuesday and Wednesday looks mostly dry for much of the state, with the threat of more thunderstorms returning later in the week.
