Buffalo Sabres Trade Captain Kyle Okposo
The 2024 NHL trade deadline is here. All trades must be completed by 4 pm EST.
This is routinely the most active trade deadline in the four major sports. There have been past seasons where 20-30 trades have been made on deadline day. That’s been lightened a bit lately with more and more “no movement clauses” within contracts, but it’s still a lot of fun.
The Sabres were expected to be active today and they don’t even wait until the afternoon to make a move.
Buffalo has traded captain Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers in exchange for 24-year-old AHL defenseman Calle Sjalin and a 7th round draft pick,
This is doing right by the player. The Sabres didn’t get much in return but Okposo might be playing in his final NHL season and goes to the Stanley Cup favorites. It’s a great thing to do for a player who has given Buffalo a lot over the past eight years.
The Sabres could also move the likes of Zemgus Girgensons, Erik Johnson and Victor Olofsson before 4 pm.
We will have to wait and see what else general manager Kevyn Adams does.
