More Speeding Cameras Added Spring 2026 to New York State Roads
10 miles over the speed limit is when the automated cameras in New York State will send you a speeding ticket to your house. More speeding cameras are being added in New York State this Spring in 2026.
There will be a 30 day notification period, where no tickets will be given, but a warning is posted on signs in the area where the automated speeding cameras will be placed. After that 30 day period, drivers who are speeding will start getting tickets sent directly to their houses. Right now, the cameras that are being installed as part of this program will be active until 2031.
Here is how the automated speeding cameras will work:
- If you go 10 miles per hour or more over the speed limit you will get a ticket
- The ticket will come right to your house.
- There will be pictures of your car and license plate as it is speeding through the speed trap.
- You will get your ticket within 14 days of the speeding offense.
- You can contest the ticket if you believe there is a mistake.
How much are the speeding tickets in the automated working zones?
- First Violation: $50 fine
- Second Violation: $75 fine if within an 18-month period of first violation
- Third and Subsequent Violations: $100 fine if within an 18-month period of first violation
