This is the day that many of us New Yorkers have been waiting for since the New York State budget was passed. As part of the budget, New York State announced they would be sending out the State's first-ever inflation rebate checks to residents.

So, just like you, I wanted to know when I could expect that money from the New York State government. The answer is sooner than later.

New York State Has Started Sending Out Inflation Rebate Checks

As of Friday, September 26th, New York State has begun sending out the inflation rebate checks to residents in New York who qualify for them. The good news is that most people in New York qualify for some form of inflation rebate check.

How Much Will The Inflation Rebate Check Be?

Who, and how much you get, will depend on your 2023 tax returns. New York State's Department of Taxation and Finance posted on its website a breakdown of who is eligible for an inflation rebate check.

Refund amount by filing status and income
Filing status2023 New York Adjusted Gross Income (Form IT-201 line 33)Refund amount

more than $75,000, but not more than $150,000$150

Now you might not be first in line to get your check. The state said they are randomly sending out checks, which means your neighbors might get them before or after you. The goal is to have all the checks mailed out by November 1st.
