Training camp is good for team chemistry and bonding, but it can be devastating when it comes to injuries.

It could be considered a necessary evil. Training camp is the time when new players get to learn the playbooks and begin to understand how a franchise operates. Veterans get to set a tone for the year. They form bonds with other players.

But it's still football and in football injuries happen.

Justin Fields leaves practice on a cart

This week was the first week of training camp for all 32 teams in the NFL. Already, the New York Jets are saying prayers for the guy they hoped would lead them back to the playoffs for the first time in years.

Justin Fields was taken off the field on a cart just a few minutes after taking the field for the second time this week as a New York Jet.

Here's why he was carted off

Ian Rapoport provided an update on X claiming that it was a dislocated non-big toe that took him off the field. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time.

Justin Fields has had an uncertain career so far

Things seemed promising coming out of college for Fields.  He was the 11th overall pick for the Chicago Bears in the 2021 draft.  But unfortunately, after just three seasons with the Bears, he was traded to Pittsburgh in 2024.  There, he sat behind Russell Wilson for most of the year.

The Jets took a chance on Fields in March, signing him to a 2-year, $40 million contract after the Aaron Rogers experiment proved to be a bust.

If Fields cannot play, the Jets have signed journeyman quarterback Tyrod Taylor to be his backup.
