There are thousands of New Yorkers who may discover that their credit score on their report is actually WRONG.

We trust people to actually input your credit scores correctly. You trust them to enter all the information correctly, but lets be honest, they're just real people who make mistakes.

There were two volunteer groups who reviewed credit reports and found out all these mistakes that were happening on their report. Unfortunately, not everyone reads their credit report. In fact, if you are like most people, don't you just get your score and move on? Unless you truly needed to, when was the last time that you saw an itemized list on your credit score. On top of that, you may not even open up your credit score because you have heard that it will make your credit score take a hit if you even CHECK IT. According to the USAtoday.com, here are some of the highlights that the volunteer groups found.

  • One-quarter of the consumers were unable to access their credit reports, which are supposed to be available to all.
  • Among those who read their reports, 44% found errors.
  • Of the errors, 27% were potentially damaging to the consumer’s credit.

It is the law to get one free credit score check per the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

"You have the right to request one free copy of your credit report each year from each of the three major consumer reporting companies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) by visiting AnnualCreditReport.com. You may also be able to view free reports more frequently online."
