5 Major Retailers in New York State Will Close on Thanksgiving
We're halfway through October and even though Halloween is over two weeks away, there are quite a few people who have already looked ahead to the upcoming holiday season.
It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than six weeks away. It doesn't hurt to prepare for the upcoming holiday season now, instead of waiting until Turkey Day and be behind in holiday planning.
There's no secret that the holiday season has been heavily impacted since the pandemic in 2020. Major restrictions put in place at retailers in 2020 and 2021 forced customers to practice social distancing and mask-wearing, while 2022 featured a more normal type of holiday season, but a much different Thanksgiving for retailers than the previous 10-15 years.
Since 2020, major retailers have been closed on Thanksgiving. It's one of the big changes the pandemic has had on Thanksgiving. Retailers discovered that they can afford to stay closed on Turkey Day, since they can have effectiveness with online sales and Black Friday in-store purchases.
The closures also allows hard-working employees to spend time with their families on Thanksgiving, which has been something that customers have greatly appreciated since this has started since 2020; some major retailers have even gone so far as to publicly say they will not ever be open on Thanksgiving again, at least for the foreseeable future,
Six week out, a few major retailers have already made it be known they will not be open on Thanksgiving in 2023, here in New York State. Three of them used to be the biggest players on Turkey Day.
