State wildlife officials say shanties used for ice fishing must be removed by the end of the week.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says the structures must be gone by Friday or the owners can be ticketed and fined $100.

The agency says shanties that fall through the ice are difficult to remove and are a hazard for snowmobilers, while those still in the water after the ice is gone can damage boats.
