Here's a situation that will tug at your heart strings.  I know it did mine.  In Harpursville, NY, there is a nonprofit organization called  "A Home for Harpers Haven Dog Rescue", which was started in July 2013 and is run by Tracy Ayers with the help of other volunteers.  They take in the dogs of area hospice patients and then attempt to find those pets new, loving homes, which in turn helps to ease the minds of the patient/former owner.

Since last July, new homes have been found for 16 dogs of all kinds.  Unfortunately, this group has not received government grant funding yet because they are waiting to be approved as a nonprofit organization.  In the meanwhile, they can only accept so many dogs until funding comes through that will allow them to construct a building to house the dogs.  If you would like to help this wonderful organization to assist more hospice patients and their dogs, DONATE HERE.
