New York is making $338 million available statewide for home heating through the Home Energy Assistance Program this coming winter. According to officials a household that demonstrates its eligibility can receive a one-time benefit of up to $726 this winter. Eligibility is based on income, household size and how the home is heated. Last year, more than 1.4 million households received heating assistance. Applicants should contact their local department of social services for more information.
