These Historical Markers Tell Great Stories of Upstate New York
If you are like me, a "road warrior," it is almost impossible to pass a historical marker along the highway. For me, my car is trained to pull over immediately (it has a mind of its own).
This gallery looks at ten very different, very unique, and very interesting historical markers around our region. They are placed alongside the road, in cemeteries, on public buildings, in parks, and well, they can be found everywhere!
As you will see, their subjects are varied. Why is their a historical marker, for example, dedicated to a regionally popular cookie? Why is there a curious historical marker in a cemetery in western New York dedicated to a person who died of a bee sting? And of course there has to be a historical marker in tribute to a "man with a boat). He was not just any man and it wasn't just any boat. You will see the story here.
We love these historical markers, and know that you do too. So, if you know of one out there, perhaps where you live in Upstate New York, please give is a shout out over on our Facebook page. we really do want to hear from you and learn about the unique history (on a marker) in your area!
