The Fly Creek Cider Mill is a very special place in a small community (population under 300) in northern Otsego County.  Although it is only 10 minutes or so from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cooperstown, New York, arriving at this 150 year old mill is like walking down the footpaths of history to a quieter time in rural New York.

The cider mill, now a major family destination, has just been named the #1 Ciderie in America by USA Today newspaper!  It beat out hundreds of nominees and came out on top.  All of us in Upstate New York have always known it to be a magical place where we have taken our families to for over a half century.  And now the whole country knows!

The Fly Creek Cider Mill is packed with homemade pies, jams, jellies, gourmet foods, and so much more.  A placid pond with snowy white ducks floating by?  Yes, and a little boardwalk from which the kids can feed the ducks!  A Christmas store with thousands of unique holiday items?  Yes.  A water-powered 150 year old cider press still in action pressing delicious cider every day?  Yes, and you can watch it work!  An orchard to stroll through?  Samples to try the goodies?  Cute photo opportunities around every corner?  Yes, yes, yes!

The cider mill is open all year long, but the absolute best time to visit is in the heart of a gorgeous Upstate New York autumn.  The surroundings are stunning.  Motorcoaches now come from as far away as Canada to see what the fuss is all about here.  Come for the shopping.  Stay for the cider donuts, cold glass of apple cider, and a big old slice of still warm apple pie.  It is all fantastic here.

We are proud to call the Fly Creek Cider Mill, an Upstate New York tradition, the top of the tops, and the best of the best!

But there are some, and they have been transformed into everything from restaurants to museums. Here are 12 of the best.
