Everyone is so busy these days. Rushing to work or rushing home to take care of the family. We always want to take time out of the day for ourselves, but there never seems to be enough hours in the day. Maybe go to the gym, exercise at home, or even just lie down and relax. Those are usually put on hold, but it’s important to take those few minutes and dedicate them to you. You’ll find yourself feeling more positive and in a better mood. Here is how I utilize my me-time!

I have recently started a class at SUNY Oneonta called Creative Movement and it has to be one of my favorite classes I have taken so far. I enrolled because I thought it would be a nice break from hectic and stressful academic courses that I have taken. Each class, our wonderful professor demonstrates and teaches us a different form of movement and different ways of expressing ourselves. These can consist of basic dance movements, yoga, ball work, Pilates, and recently we learned country dance. This class is fun, relaxing, and at times silly, but that is what makes it so great. At the end of class, we all sit in a circle and talk about how we are feeling at that moment as opposed to before the class started. It’s amazing how much my mood and overall state of mind changes after leaving the dance studio. It makes me realize that we are always so busy in our crazy lives that we never take time out of the day to focus on ourselves.

Just dedicating a few minutes out of the day to yourself will have a positive impact on your overall mood. You can try things such as basic stretches and breathing exercises to start. Maybe even try taking a yoga class or any movement class, if you can find the time. If not, turn up the tunes and move around any way you like. It’s all about you and expressing yourself the way you want to!
