The federal government is awarding more than $16 million in funding to expand high-speed, broadband internet access throughout Upstate New York. According to Empire State Development, the money comes from the Federal Communications Commission’s Connect America Fund, which works to expand broadband deployment in underserved rural areas. More than 700 customers in Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties will be connected under the grant which covers up to 50 percent of a project’s cost, and up to 75 percent for remote, high-need areas.
