Did You Watch the Moon Landing on July 20, 1969?

July 20, 1969.  It was unforgettable.  If you got to see it.

When Neil Armstrong first set foot on the surface of the moon the entire world held its breath.  Did you watch it? I think a lot of people who say they watched it on TV maybe didn't.  But that is OK, because it happens to a lot of major milestone events in one's lifetime.  I mean 10-million people have probably said they were at the original Woodstock concert too.  No harm done.

But for those of us who did watch it you can remember every minute of it.  I was 19 years old and home for the summer from college.  As the moment got nearer and nearer my family gathered in the living room of our house at 69 West Main Street in Sidney to watch the momentous occasion.  We were tuned in to Walter Cronkite and CBS News.  The whole world was.

My elderly grandfather, who was alive when the Wright Brothers took that first historic flight in 1903 and was also alive to see Lindbergh cross the Atlantic in 1927, joined us.  At the "touchdown" moment we all went out on the front yard and yelled and cheered.  It was exhilarating.
