A Cooperstown teen will sign the National Anthem for the deaf at FrogFest 32.

17-year-old Maya Alexis isn't deaf but she's been speaking sign language since her mother used it with her as a baby. "I started to really learn it when I took a class freshman year."

That class, along with her American Sign Language (ASL) teacher, has inspired Maya to work in education. She's taking a gap year before heading to college to one day become either an elementary school teacher, or do something with ASL. "ASL has been an outlet for me to express myself, and has really helped me on my journey, all thanks to my ASL teacher."

During the COVID quarantine, Maya focused a lot of her extra time on ASL, learning to sign a few songs each week. "This is one of my favorite songs that I learned, Eddie Arcuri’s “Beer Goggles.”"
