Claudia Tenney Sworn in as NY 22nd District Congresswoman
Republican Claudia Tenney is back in Washington, two years after being replaced by Democrat Anthony Brindisi and more than three months after election day.
Tenney has been sworn in as a member of Congress after one of the nation’s most protracted vote counts. Tenney February 11 reclaimed her job representing part of central New York and the Southern Tier from Brindisi, who ousted her from office in 2018.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi swore Tenney in February 11, welcoming her to the 117th Congress.
Tenney and Brindisi had faced off in a rematch of the 2018 contest which Brindisi won by only a couple thousand votes. This time, Tenney, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, won by 109 votes out of more than 300,000 votes cast.
Brindisi conceded February 8 and said he would drop his legal appeals although he and some other officials in the eight-county 22nd Congressional District are calling for an investigation into the widespread problems with vote-counting and voter registration recording in almost all of the counties. The Oneida County Executive is asking Governor Andrew Cuomo to remove the county's Board of Elections Commissioners over the many anomalies in Oneida’s count.
