These “Born in Buffalo” Stars Gave Us Years of Entertainment!
Harold Arlen was born in Buffalo as Hyman Arluck. He went on to write more than 500 songs including Judy Garland's signature tune. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was named the #1 song of the 20th Century by the Recording Industry Academy of America. Not bad, huh?
This gallery look at a dozen dazzling starts who were each born in the city of Buffalo, New York. Their career s have left us with so many memories of wonderful entertainment.
My favorites include the actress who played the saloon keeper, "Miss Kitty" on the legendary TV show "Gunsmoke." How about a young man who scored big with a song about some flowers and a sad lady? A reliable sidekick who scored Emmy and Tony Awards for her television work and Broadway performances. A funk star, a popular 1940s vocal group who met in a Buffalo high school, and an actor who we all loved as a coach in one of TV's best sports mini-series.
And you will meet a talented singer who had dozens of hits, but is also remembered as the vocalist who made a lot of money singing television and radio commercials for Pepsi. Who was "Miss Pepsi?" Find out in the gallery.
This is the first in a series of galleries we will publish about celebrities who hail from various cities across the upstate New York region.
