Accidental Death Benefits Granted for COVID-19 Workers
New York State is now giving death benefits to the families of frontline state and local government employees who lost their lives fighting the coronavirus outbreak. The benefit can be paid to the families of those who died after contracting COVID-19 within 45 days of reporting to work on or after March 1. This accidental death benefit is more substantial than the regular death benefit provided to public workers’ families. It applies to workers who were either at their regular site or an alternate one.
