With voters passing a constitutional amendment that will allow for privately owned casinos to be built in New York state, the siting process has begun. State Senator Tom Libous says one of the areas approved for a casino is the Southern Tier

A panel set up by the governor will review a number of organizations who are applying for a license, to determine their merit and ability to come up with enough money to put a casino together.

According to Tom Libous, three organizations in the Southern Tier are applying: Tioga Downs, Traditions at the Glen, and the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton.

Senator Libous says the casinos will have a positive impact on the communities in which they are sited, providing more jobs and income for the people of the Southern Tier.
