It is that time of year again.

Holiday songs will be pouring out of your radio speakers from now until at least New Year's Eve.  So what is your Christmas Music taste?

Not surprisingly, my favorites are the older classics.  Nothing can beat the sounds of Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, The Carpenters, Kate Smith, Tony Bennett, Ray Conniff, Perry Como, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Englebert Humperdinck and the rest of the gang.  I love them all.

As for the newer ones, the more recent songs, sure I will give them a try.  But not many of them really stick.  When I started radio in 1989 nobody had ever heard of "Mary Did You Know."  Now it is a perennial favorite. Nobody had ever heard of Vince Vance and the Valiants and yet today you will hear their hit "All I Want for Christmas is You"  almost every hour on your radio dial.  I also like "Hey, Santa" by the sister group of Carnie, Wendy and Chynna Phillips.

Still, give me Nat and his chestnuts on the fire, Kate singing about Christmas Eve in her hometown, or Tony encouraging us to dance the Christmas waltz..

Oh, and this is the season of fellowship, good times, cheer and joy so please keep Elvis and his "Blue Christmas" far away from me.

Sorry, King....
