New York State Electric and Gas crews were busy restoring electric service to thousands of customers in the aftermath of severe thunderstorms and strong winds.

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]The utility on Monday morning reported 3,817 customers were without power. NYSEG said 1,557 customers in Otsego County and 1,489 in Chenango County were did not have electricity.

Many of those without power lost service on Saturday. The company said it expected to have electricity restored to 90 percent of the affected customers by 7 p.m. Monday.

NYSEG was making some dry ice and bottled water available for customers who were still without electric service. One of the distribution sites was the Norwich Fire Department on East Main Street in Norwich. Another site was the New Berlin Fire Station on School Street.

According to the Chenango County Emergency Operations Center, the Norwich Family YMCA was providing free shower facilities to any residents who were still without power.
