The First Toy Ever Advertised On TV? Mr. Potato Head, 1952! (VIDEO)

hasbro.com

Mr. Potato Head was the very first toy ever advertised on television, in 1952.

Do you remember that you had to use a real potato for this toy in its earliest configurations?  Nearly two-million “piece packets” for Mr. Potato Head were sold in the very first year.  Mrs. Potato Head came a year later in 1953.

Because moms were finding gouged, rotten potatoes under the beds of the Baby Boom generations, Mr. Potato Head “went plastic” in 1964.

More than 100,000,000  Mr. and Mrs. Potato Heads have been sold in the past sixty years.

Take a look at this very old TV commercial for this toy.  Do you think today’s kids would find this fun and interesting?
