Lady Liberty has sat on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor since it was dedicated in 1886. But did you know she has many little sisters around the state?
The National Park Service expects to reopen the Statue of Liberty to visitors by July 4th, after repairing the extensive damage to Liberty Island caused by Hurricane Sandy.
That announcement came from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.
Superstorm Sandy severely damaged the Statue of Liberty national monument, which remains closed more than three months after the storm struck, with no estimated re-opening date.
