Hurricane Sandy

If you've spent time in New York City, you've seen your share of rats. The most common place to spot the unpopular rodents is in the city's subways. Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, many of the subway tunnels are currently flooded, leaving the rats nowhere to go but up. And according to experts, they will have no problem doing so.

There are many iconic images to come out of Hurricane Sandy in New York City:  the water pouring into the subway systems, the exploding transformers around Manhattan, the dangling construction crane hovering overhead near Times Square and much more...

As predicted, Hurricane Sandy created one crazy night. Millions without power, explosions, flooding and at least 18 people dead. Don't let your braggedy friends on Facebook convince you this wasn't a big deal. It was crazy. Here are some pics to sum up what happened. Feel free to share your photos in the comments.

There was a lot of hype for Sandy. A lot. Central New Yorkers expected and feared winds of up to 90 mph, which never occurred. They anticipated mass power outages and emptied stores of emergency supplies.

Delaware County has followed the lead of Broome County, Chenango County and many other counties in the region in declaring a State of Emergency on Monday. Delaware County Chairman, James E. Eisel, Sr., has declared a State of Emergency for Delaware County...

Photos of Hurricane Sandy flooded social media sites throughout the day Monday, with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter users in the storm's path posting dramatic photos of waves, flooding and downed trees. (Some are fake, by the way.)

In the Northeast, people are swarming to beg, borrow, steal and even purchase last-minute emergency supplies to prepare for the worst of Hurricane Sandy. However, many stores are running out of those items, leaving people to return home empty-handed.

Here's the current list of what counties, cities, and states have declared a state of emergency related to Sandy. We will update the list as more emergencies are declared.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Lawrence Wilcox has issued a State of Emergency for Chenango County until further notice. All roadways in Chenango County will be closing at 9 p.m. Monday and will be re-evaluated at 6 a.m. Tuesday, in anticipation of numerous trees and power lines down.

By Bob Joseph A State of Emergency has been declared in Broome County, starting at 4 p.m. County Executive Debra Preston's office announced the declaration at noon.
