Attorney general Eric Schniederman announced Thursday 12 more enforcement actions against post Hurricane Sandy price gouging. Twelve gas station operators in the affected areas hit hard by Sandy will be held responsible for a dramatic price increase in gasoline. There is now a total of 25 gas retailers who were caught after citizen complaints.

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday held a briefing with New York State's congressional delegation and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with county executives from Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties to review a detailed assessment of the damage and future mitigation and prevention costs as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

The Federal Communications Commission will hold field hearings across the New York area to determine what steps need to be taken to ensure that cell towers don’t lose power for days or weeks in the wake of severe storms. Governor Andrew Cuomo Tuesday signed an executive order to establish a commission under the Moreland Act that will investigate the response, preparation, and management of New York’s power utility companies. With the major storms hitting the state over the past two years, including Hurricanes Sandy and Irene, and Tropical Storm Lee.

Residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy or any future storm that knocks out electricity, are reminded that deadly carbon monoxide can result from the improper use of alternate power sources. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of poison-related fatalities in the United States.

The Public Service Commission announced that power has been restored to nearly 97 percent of those who lost power due to Hurricane Sandy. Utility companies are now focusing on restoring power to those remaining without power.
