Back in June, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a challenge: Develop local solutions to national problems. It is designed to "celebrate the creative problem solving and incredible innovation that is happening in city halls from coast to coast."

The winning city will receive $9 million in funding to make their ideas happen. The list of 305 entrants has been narrowed to the top 20. Syracuse is one of them.

Syracuse's entry is as follows:

Syracuse will establish an identity as an international city by designing the blueprint by which to harness the talents and energies of New Americans, showcase diversity, and transform distressed neighborhoods.

The grand prize winner and four additional winners will be announced in Q2 of 2013 (after March).
