Ryan Lawrence of Syracuse has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his 21-month-old daughter.

Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said a body believed to be that of Maddox Lawrence was recovered from the city's Inner Harbor late Tuesday morning.

An Amber Alert for the child was canceled a short time later. The statewide alert had been issued Sunday morning.

Ryan Lawrence disappeared with the girl on Saturday night. The alert indicated he had left a message saying he intended to harm himself and might harm the child.

Lawrence was taken into custody in the village of Baldwinsville on Monday by police who acted on a tip.

Fowler said Lawrence is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

The police chief said investigators must wait for DNA test results before they know for certain that the body found by state police divers is that of Maddox.

Fowler said there are "a lot of things" about the investigation he could not discuss. He said police are not looking at any other suspects in the girl's death at this time.
