Each Fall, SUNY Oneonta chooses a book for their Common Read and this year's book is Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson. Stevenson is known as the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice that represents the poor, wrongly condemned, and women and children. In his book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption he writes of the unfairness and inequality that he and his clients experience from the justice system.

On September 24th at SUNY Oneonta's Dewar Arena in the Alumni Fieldhouse, Stevenson will deliver the 2018 Mills Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m.  The public is invited to attend. Leading up to Stevenson's lecture, you can also be part of a Huntington Memorial Library book discussion event on September 11 and 20 at 7:00 p.m. which will both be led by SUNY Oneonta professor Thor Gibbins.

To become more familiar with Bryan Stevenson, you can listen to his TED Talk on injustice which The New Yorker declared as one of the five essential TED Talks to view.
