State Senator James Seward announced the senate overwhelmingly passed a bill to make baseball the official sport of New York. The measure passed last week was crafted after receiving an appeal two years ago from a fourth grade class at at Cooperstown Elementary School who were studying New York State government and state symbols. The students realized that New York lacked a state sport and presented the idea to Senator Seward. A companion bill was introduced in the Assembly.
