U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is calling for tighter regulations on the trucking industry.

The New York senator wants the Department of Transportation to require trucking companies and their drivers to use electronic devices to accurately show how many hours a truck has been driven. Currently most drivers manually enter their hours. Schumer also wants insurance coverage of truck companies studied to determine proper coverage.

The call comes after a fatal crash involving a tractor trailer and limo bus carrying comedian Tracy Morgan and several others, killing one person. There have been questions over the route the driver was taking and accusations that he hadn't slept in 24 hours.
