Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman says his office received reports of close to close to 1,300 reported data breaches in 2016. According to a news releaseSchneiderman says that is 60 percent increase over 2015 and sets a new record. 

The breaches exposed the personal records of 1.6 million New Yorkers in 2016, representing a threefold increase over the prior year. Most of the breached data consisted of social security numbers and financial account information.
