Schumer Cracks Down on Youth Football Concussions with New Legislation Efforts
U.S. senator Charles Schumer was joined by local high school football players, coaches and medical professionals in Rochester earlier this week as he launched his push for legislation to improve high school and youth football helmet safety standards, to help cut down on concussions.
In response to a number of growing serious head injuries, senator Schumer pushed for new legislation to require safer helmets on high school and youth football fields.
With football season starting up, many high school and youth football players are using helmets that don’t include the latest features to help cushion blows and prevent concussions. The new legislation would allow school districts to buy better helmets as budgets allow.
“We must make the gridiron safer for our kids,” Schumer said.
