One year ago as our region was dealing with heavy rainfall and damage from Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee arrived on September 7  dumping another six to 10 inches of rain over a 24-hour period.  The one-two punch caused massive flooding, widespread power outages and millions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses and property.  Recovery efforts continue a year later.  New York State has poured 50 million dollars into flood relief  efforts here while FEMA has also sent millions in aid to our region as well.  Today, the American Red Cross Central New York Region hosted a Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee Remembrance Day at the Terra Cotta, 81 State Street in Binghamton.  Rosie Taravella, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Central New York Region, says "our remembrance event will give the American Red Cross an opportunity to thank all of our community partners who worked together on the response and recovery in the Southern Tier."  Elected officials, rescuers and flood victims were on hand at the event.
