The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a skunk, found near the Town of Burlington Flats, tested positive for rabies on  Monday.

One unvaccinated dog was exposed and will be humanely euthanized.

The public is cautioned to stay away from any stray or wild animals and instruct their small children to do so also.  It is the NYS law that all dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated for rabies.  Unvaccinated pets in contact with wildlife that is suspected or confirmed to be rabid must either be euthanized or strictly quarantined at owner's expense for 6 months.

A free rabies clinic is scheduled for Wednesday December 5 from 4-6pm at the Susquehanna Animal Shelter.
