Hilton Evans, who was publisher and editor of The Deposit Courier newspaper for more than four decades, has died. He was 73.

Evans died on November 29. He oversaw the operations of the weekly newspaper since 1970. He had been owner and president of the Courier Printing Corporation since 1977.

In a conversation last August with WNBF News, Evans spoke of his love of running The Deposit Courier and the printing business associated with the community newspaper.

Evans was born in Deposit in 1943. He graduated from Deposit Central School in 1961. He continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College. He later graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, majoring in journalism.

A funeral Mass was held at Christ Episcopal Church in Deposit on Saturday.
